The RAN "Australian Navy Cadets" (previously known as RANR Cadets 1950-1973), was merged with Navy League's Australian Sea Cadet Corps on 1st January 1973. The new body was named the Naval reserve Cadets (NRC) and in 2001 the name reverted to Australian Navay Cadets, the original 1907 title.
The Royal Australian Navy now providing for the spiritual, social and educational welfare of boys and girls and help to develop them in character, a sense of patriotism, self-reliance, citizenship and discipline. The uniforms are supplied free of charge.
Cadets are required to produce a certificate from their doctor to confirm they are capable of carrying out the normal duties and activities of the Cadet Corps. If injured while on duty, Cadets are considered for payment of compensation. Parades are normally held during a weekend, Saturday or Sunday, or on Friday evening.
Training Syllabus includes seamanship, boat handling - sail and power, navigation, physical training, rifle shooting, signalling, rope splicing, general sporting activities and a variety of other subjects. Instructional camps are arranged for Cadets and they are also given opportunities, whenever possible, to undertake training at sea in ships of the Royal Australian Navy.
