AUSTRALIAN NAVY CADET UNITS, HISTORY, REPORTS & CURRENT EVENTS
(listings amended as at 28th. July 2000)

The Australian Navy Cadets (previously known as Naval Reserve Cadets 1973 - 31 March 2001), came under the direct sponsorship of the Royal Australian Navy in January 1973, providing for the spiritual, social and educational welfare of boys and girls and help to develop them in character, a sense of patriotism, self-reliance, citizenship and discipline.
Uniforms are supplied free of charge.
Cadets are required to produce a certificate from their doctor to confirm they are capable of carrying out the normal duties and activities of the Cadet Corps. If injured while on duty, Cadets are considered for payment of compensation. Parades are normally held during a weekend, Saturday or Sunday, or on Friday evening.
Training Syllabus includes seamanship, boat handling - sail and power, navigation, physical training, rifle shooting, signalling, rope splicing, general sporting activities and a variety of other subjects. Instructional camps are arranged for Cadets and they are also given opportunities, whenever possible, to undertake training at sea in ships of the Royal Australian Navy.
If Cadets are interested in pursuing a maritime career, then they are given every assistance to join the Royal Australian Navy, Mercantile Marine or such other maritime career option they choose.
